Privacy Policy
Last updated 26 June 2026
The Unc Daily (“we,” “us,” or “the app”) is a satirical newspaper that explains internet slang to the people it baffles most. This policy explains what information the app and this website handle. The short version: you can read everything without an account, and the only personal information we ever collect is an email address — and only if you choose to give us one by subscribing to our newsletter.
No account, no profile
You can read The Unc Daily without creating an account, signing in, or giving us your name or any other personal detail. We don’t build a profile of you, and we don’t use advertising or cross-app tracking identifiers. The one exception is the newsletter described below, which is entirely optional.
Newsletter
Our website lets you subscribe to a newsletter so we can tell you when the app launches and share the occasional update. If you sign up:
- What we collect.Just the email address you type into the form — nothing else.
- How we use it.Only to email you those updates. We don’t sell, rent, or share your email, and we don’t use it for advertising or to profile you.
- Where it’s stored. With our database provider, Supabase, on our behalf.
- Opting out. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your email at any time by writing to theuncdaily@outlook.com.
Subscribing is completely optional — you never have to give us your email to read The Unc Daily.
Information kept on your device
Some things are stored only on your device and are never sent to us:
- Saved editions. When you save an issue to read offline, it’s stored locally on your device. Deleting it, or the app, removes it.
- Your preferences. Settings like appearance (light/dark) and text size are stored on your device.
- Daily reminder. If you allow notifications, the morning reminder is scheduled locally by your device. We don’t send push notifications from a server, and we don’t know whether you’ve enabled them.
Information our servers receive
When the app or website loads the day’s edition, it requests content from our hosting providers. As with any internet service, their servers may automatically log standard technical information — such as an IP address, device or browser type, and the time of the request — to keep the service secure and reliable. We don’t use this information to identify you, and we don’t combine it with anything else.
Analytics
This website uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand overall traffic, such as how many people visit a page. It’s privacy-friendly: it doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t follow you across other sites, and doesn’t collect information that identifies you personally.
Service providers
We rely on a few third parties to operate The Unc Daily, each handling data only as needed to provide their service:
- Apple distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight and may provide us with aggregate, non-identifying download and crash statistics.
- Supabase stores and delivers the articles and images, and stores newsletter email addresses.
- Vercel hosts this website and provides the cookieless analytics described above.
We do not sell your information, and we don’t share it with advertisers.
Children
The Unc Daily is general-audience satire and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we start handling information differently, we’ll update this page and revise the date above.
